"I now remind you to stir into flame the gift of God which is within you"
II Timothy 1:6
The cross and flame, as part of
the emblem for United Methodist Women, remind us of our purpose of helping
women to grow as persons and in community by their participation in the
global mission of the church.
As
early as 1869, church women who were concerned about hunger, poverty,
education and medical care organized to meet the needs of people in these
areas. Focusing primarily on the needs of women and children, their work
soon expanded to other continents.
As
they worked to share the gospel with others they also developed personal
skills and leadership abilities, not neglecting their spiritual enrichment.
We are a national organization of church
women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons
through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship and to expand
concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the
church. The morning and evening circle groups conduct meetings with a planned
program focusing on topics that pertain to the national group’s focus. There are
combined meetings held in the evening in the months of May and October. Local
service projects are conducted throughout the year. All adult women are welcome
whether they are a church member or not.

first Tuesday of the month from 6:30 to 8:00 PM
Sarah-Rebekah Circle

2010 PROGRAM
“LET’S GET
TOGETHER”
The theme of
the 2010 UMW program book this year is “Let’s Get Together”. Our
God is a community-making God and our mission together as members of
United Methodist Women is creating beloved communities with women,
children and youth. “Let’s get together” calls each of us to be
more authentic in this effort.
Women in The
United Methodist Church come from different age groups, economic
situations, education levels, and ethnicities. The UMW is no
different. The rich diversity we have as an organization expands our
mission work and community.
The different
themes that will be a focus this year deal with spiritual growth,
mission, evangelism, human trafficking, and urging women to build and
expand their community. The program book will also be featured at the
United Methodist Women’s Assembly celebration held every 4 years. This
year it is in St. Louis at the end of April.
Let us Hope these
programs will challenge us to new insights and reflections on our part
in the community of God. Let’s get together and renew our commitment to
the mission of United Methodist Women to help women, children and youth
in our local community as well as in other countries.
WHAT DO WE DO
We focus on the needs of
women and children by becoming aware of the plight of those around us
globally and by studying their circumstances.
We hold an annual flea
market in September at the church. This helps to raise funds to give to
mission projects through the conference. We collect
Campbell’s labels to
help fund projects at the McCurdy School in New Mexico. We collect
Health kits and School kits to provide to those in need
during emergencies. We
take part in an offering of Self Denial as well as the World Thank
Offering to help mission needs throughout the world.
WHEN DO WE MEET
Monthly meetings are
held at the church. There are two meeting times to choose from. For your
convenience there is a morning and an evening group.
Currently the meetings
are on the first Tuesday of the month at 6:30 PM and the first Thursday
of the month at 10:30 AM. Babysitting can be arranged for the evening meeting
by calling the president listed below.
