spirit. Rehearsals every Wednesday from 6:15-7:30pm beginning September 7,
2011 and continuing through May 23, 2012. Performances the second Sunday of each

On
Sunday, August 21, the Adult Hand Bell Choir
from Vandalia United Methodist Church reconvened
after a summer break.
A special “thank you” goes out to AGEHR
member David Pinkerton who directed the annual
hand bell seminar; to Margaret Dill, Sinclair’s
Hand Bell Director; and to Nancy Vance for
continuing to share her expertise as our hand
bell mentor.
We have a solid core group of energetic
ringers this year. However, there is still room
for new members to join us during Wednesday
night rehearsals beginning September 7.
Music is fun and
you would have a wonderful time by joining. So
far, the VUMC Adult Hand Bell group includes
Phyllis Boyee, William Boyee, Linda Breidenbach,
Christa Davies, Joyce Parin, Kathy Postell,
Mason Taylor, Nancy Vance, Lorelei Weber, Janet
Weeks, Reverend Tom Weeks,
Blessings to
all. It will be a great year!
Susan Trissell,
Adult Hand Bell Director
ADULT CHANCEL CHOIR
The adult choir rehearses each
Wednesday, in the Choir Room, from 7:30 to 9:00 PM we sing Sunday mornings and
for special services. This group sings from September through May and is open to
high school through adults with a “song in their heart”
CHILDREN'S MUSIC

NOW FORMING A YOUTH MUSIC LEADERSHIP TEAM: – THE
KING DAVID PLAYERS
(Ages: 8th Grade
– High School)
The
King David Players will lead the congregation
during Children’s Sabbath on Sunday, October 9,
2011. The King David Players step-up as
liturgists in the Live nativity Scene during our
5:00 p.m. Christmas Eve Service. A liturgical
dance team is being formed through this
youth-age group and will perform to Katie Moran
Bart’s “Blessing” on May 22 during our morning
worship service. We focus on developing church
leadership skills working closely with the
Education and Worship Teams. It helps to be able
to read music as we are blessed with a core of
proficient musicians; however, Susan Trissell
will work one-on-one with youth who do not yet
know how to read music. If interested please
contact Mrs. Trissell through the church office
at 937-898-5845.

SHINING LIGHTS CHOIR (Ages: K-6th
grade)
Young children (through 6th
grade) have the opportunity to learn to work
together. Shining Lights perform once a month
during a Worship Service so they eventually
learn to deal with “stage fright”. Vandalia UMC
offers adult leadership and musical tools to
help them use their energy in a positive light.
The Shining Lights Children’s Choir is blessed
to have a complete 3 octave set of Malmark hand
chimes, djembe and doumbek drums, electronic
Yamaha keyboard and an electronic drum set at
its disposal. Members of the Shining Lights are
afforded many opportunities to express their
young beliefs and build upon their faith. We
meet every Sunday as part of our Junior Church
ministry first in the Seekers Classroom for
study time. Next, in the Children’s Choir Room
(located beside the nursery). This group
performs the 3rd Sunday of EVERY month
throughout the school year. The Shining Lights
Choir has ample room for additional happy,
eager-to-learn K-6th graders. And even ample
patience and support to work with the “not so
happy ones”. All are welcome. Children's Choirs
participate from September - May. If you need
transportation our church bus can pick you up
and take you home. All leaders pass background
checks as VUMC follows a strict Safe Sanctuary
policy.
JOHN WESLEY RINGERS
(Ages: 6th
Grade – High School)
Youth in 6th – 12th
grades come together to ring worship appropriate
pieces. We are members of the National
Choristers Guild and incorporate many of their
new works published right here in Dayton OH at
Lorenz Publishing. We sight read, work on group
performances and rhythm skills. We take time to
share prayers, concerns and joys. Long ago,
John Wesley and his brother Charles were Circuit
Riding Preachers. John Wesley methodically
shared the message of Jesus Christ, our Savior,
throughout the world. Mr. Paul Maranka
shared “The Life of John Wesley” with this group
on several occasions so they may understand our
history.
LITTLE
LAMBS CHOIR
(Ages: Toddlers – Pre-K)
Toddlers are taught Bible
stories each week. Little Lambs also sing and ring our
primary colored hand bells. The Little Lambs of Vandalia
UMC take their role in worship very seriously. Little
Lambs learn several age appropriate songs. Here are sample lyrics so you might
practice at home.
“The
B-I-B-L-E. Yes, that’s the book for me.
I
stand alone on the word of GOD.
The
B-I-B-L-E.” (public domain)
